Research & Primary Sources

PBS/MPS Research

Public research, architecture, policy materials, and regulatory context supporting the development of Provenance-Backed Securities and the Meritocratic Provenance System.

Why maintain a public research library?

PBS/MPS combines questions from economics, securities regulation, provenance, intangible assets, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, performance measurement, and contribution attribution.

Meritocrat.org separates public research from advocacy so that legislators, researchers, regulators, technical reviewers, and interested members of the public can examine the foundations of the proposal directly.

This library also distinguishes between research that has been released publicly and work that remains under technical, regulatory, legal, or publication review.

Research Status

Work under technical review

Some PBS/MPS research exists in more detailed mathematical, technical, legal, or regulatory form than is currently published on Meritocrat.org.

The existence of such work should not be interpreted as meaning that every draft, model, formula, implementation choice, or analysis has been approved for public release.

Technical materials may be revised, independently reviewed, versioned, or released separately when appropriate for scholarly, legislative, regulatory, or technical examination.

Mathematical Research

Contribution Decomposition research

ScarabCloud has developed a formal mathematical treatment of Contribution Decomposition and Royalty Flow within the PBS/MPS research program.

The research examines the problem of relating identifiable contributions to measurable outcomes in systems where contributions can interact, persist over time, and participate in collaborative value creation.

The current public explanation is available through the Contribution Decomposition architecture page.

Technical publication status: The underlying mathematical paper is not currently distributed through this research library. A future public technical edition may be released separately following appropriate technical and publication review.

Regulatory Record

Research and regulatory engagement

ScarabCloud engaged with the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions during development of the PBS/MPS proposal.

During that engagement, the materials described to DFI included the Provenance Ledger, Performance Oracle, and Contribution Decomposition & Royalty Flow architecture.

DFI subsequently explained that the proposed architecture appeared to extend beyond the laws administered by DFI and could raise issues including property rights and intellectual property.

DFI did not endorse PBS/MPS or provide a regulatory pathway for bringing PBS to market.

How does Meritocrat.org distinguish research from policy?

Research can describe a model, investigate an economic problem, develop an architecture, or test an analytical framework.

Policy asks whether and how institutions should act on those findings.

Meritocrat.org therefore treats technical research, ScarabCloud's policy conclusions, proposed legislation, and statements made by regulators as distinct categories.

Publication of research on Meritocrat.org does not imply adoption of the research by DFI, another regulator, a legislature, a court, an academic institution, or an independent reviewer.
